アブストラクト This article is a report on the investigation and research of the Harzan-Shileg site, which was conducted in Mongolia in 2017, compared to Chinqai Castle, an important military base during the Mongolian Empire. Prior to that, in 2016, we found both feet of 27 cm and both hands Buddha statue in the ruins. This Buddha image was from the first half of the 13th century during the Chingghis Khan period. In this project, we conducted further excavations and analyzed excavated artifacts in September 2017. In addition, we conducted a survey of the surrounding area and considered how various people who traveled between East and West were interacting in this area during the Mongol Empire, a multi-ethnic society. The Sharga area, where the ruins of Harzan-Shileg are located, is located just beyond the Altai Mountains from Central Asia. Once upon a time, people who traveled between Central Asia and the Mongolian Plateau would have had the energy to rest in the area of Harzan-Shileg and continue their journeys. In order to clarify the base of the traffic route, the inscriptions left on the rock walls by the archaeological sites and people who come and go are also important materials. The purpose of this project was to investigate the traffic routes on the Mongolian Plateau. The project also cut out, transported, and stored Buddha statues in 2017. This is because Buddha statues are historical discoveries and we consider them important from the viewpoint of cultural property protection.
